In spite of its remarkable critical response, FX decided to close "The Bridge," which featured actress Diane Kruger and Mexican actor Demián Bichir. FX announced the cancellation after the series' two seasons.

"The Bridge" is an American crime drama television series that was broadcasted by the FX network. It was based on the Danish-Swedish series "Broen or Bron." The first season of the series premiered on July 10, 2013 starring Demián Bichir and German actress Diane Kruger.

"The Bridge" season two was aired from July 9 to Oct. 1, 2014. The series depicts the joint effort of two police detectives, one from the US and one Mexican. It follows their attempt to investigate a serial killer menacing both nations along the Texas-Chihuahua border.

In "The Bridge" series, Diane Kruger played the role of Detective Sonya Cross, a member of the EL Paso Police Department in Texas, who has Asperger Syndrome. Meanwhile, Demián Bichir is Detective Marco Ruiz of Policia Estatal of the Mexican State of Chihuahua. Their investigation is complicated by the widespread corruption and general indifference among the Mexican authorities and the violence of the powerful borderland drug cartels.

Despite good television reviews, FX Network cancelled the third season of the crime drama. Express UK reported the network's bosses announced Tuesday, Oct. 21, 2014, they are not moving forward with the series after struggling to find a solid fan base.

USA Today also reported that Diane Kruger's "The Bridge" was not one of FX's stronger ratings performers. It only averaged slightly with over 1 million viewers for its season finale earlier this month, a major drop from the 3 million viewers who watched the season premiere.

According to Liberty Voice, FX's decision to cancel Diane Kruger's "The Bridge" was not an easy. And though it mostly earned well-received reviews, it did not have the creative force or viewer support to deserve a third season. Furthermore, the network also said as good as the series was, it was not likely to be nominated for major awards.

However, Shine America Production, which recently launched Fox's Gracepoint, is going to seek other options for the critically-acclaimed crime drama series.

"We thank our partners at FX for their tireless efforts in developing and launching 'The Bridge' with us," Shine America stated through The Hollywood Reporter. "From its fresh, unique voice to its deep and diverse ensemble cast, this is a series that we are all very proud of."

In line with the statement, Diane Kruger's "The Bridge" might have reached the end of the road but with Shine America, perhaps another season of the series might open again.
