Despite the rumors, Colin Farrell is not really ditching "True Detective" Season 2 for another project. The 39-year-old is still part of the hit HBO series up until its finale this Sunday. However, good news has landed the actor after he was cast to be part of the highly anticipated "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them."

New York Daily News has learned that after his stint on HBO's "True Detective" Season 2, the Irish actor is set to grace the big screen as part of the lead cast of the "Harry Potter" spin-off made by no other than master storyteller J.K. Rowling.

Farrell is expected to strip off his Ray Velcoro persona for a magical character named Graves. Graves is said to be one of the wizards who are going to get involved in the enchanting saga that's set 70 years prior the "Harry Potter" storyline in New York City.

This is going to be a dream come true for Colin Farrell, who expressed his desire to be part of the "Harry Potter" films back in 2008. "I would like to be in something like that," he told MTV at the time. "That would be genius."

"Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them," according to the movie's website, is not a prequel or a sequel to the "Harry Potter" storyline; it is an extension of the wizarding world that has captured the hearts of kids and adults alike.

To be helmed by "Harry Potter" director David Yates, "Fantastic Beasts" chronicles the adventures of Newt Scamander, who will be played by "The Theory of Everything" star Eddie Redmayne, as per Mashable.

Meanwhile, fans should watch out for the finale of Colin Farrell's police procedural, "True Detective" Season 2, as it is set to end on Sunday.

Many questions are going to be answered in the finale including the possibility of Erica being one of the orphaned kids named Laura. The identity of the man behind the crow mask will also be revealed. And finally, Business Insider reported that the finale could also treat fans to what they have been waiting for —the real score between Velcoro and Ani Bezzerides, played by Rachel McAdams.
