After Ghost Games confirmed in May that the "Need for Speed" reboot title will be an always-online kind of game, many gamers were left guessing the reasons behind the developer's decision.

But recently, an executive producer from the studio came forward to explain why the upcoming game will require gamers to stay online in order to play it.

According to Marcus Nilsson, the new "Need for Speed" game will heavily focus on the Autolog feature. Unlike in previous titles, the Autolog will no longer be treated as a side-feature which was only used for online matchmaking purposes, Cinemablend reported.

Instead, it will play a central role in the upcoming game by always keeping track of players' progress and other in-game information.

Nilsson explained that through Autolog, "Need for Speed" 2015 will constantly track the gameplay of gamers and their friends. The system will then mold the game's story according to the information it will collect.

"We've been pretty bit with Autolog throughout the years and, as we know, it's a really powerful feature," Nilsson told the Official Xbox Magazine according to Games Radar.

"This time around we're going to give it more of a human voice," he added. "It will treat your friend's play as if it is part of the narrative experience."

Aside from the Autolog, another major reason behind the game's always-online requirement is the addition of a new snapshot system. While playing, gamers will be allowed to take screenshots of their game and share it online. Each "like" that the images get will then be converted into in-game currency.

"We also have a new snapshot system as well," Nilsson explained. "Which is taking pictures of a lot of different moments — [they go] out to the 'Need for Speed' network where people can 'like' them, and those likes are being pushed back into the game as currency. So you can get progression from sharing your photos."

Softpedia noted that these are only some of the features of the online mode of the "Need for Speed" reboot. Other aspects of the game such as car customizations and overall racing experience could also be integrated with the always-online requirement.

The upcoming "Need for Speed" game is scheduled to come out on Nov. 3 and will be available for the PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4 platforms.
