Showrunner Julie Plec has shared her thoughts on the possibility of "The Vampire Diaries" season 8. In EW's "Julie's Diary" feature by Julie Plec, the "TVD" boss answered questions from Twitter users about "The Vampire Diaries." She answered 10 questions which she deemed as "legitimate, intelligent and non-R-rated."

Twitter user syliergonz asked about the possibility of "The Vampire Diaries" season 8. "Well I sure hope so," Plec replied. "I know we have a very large crew and cast of people who really want to be doing what we love on this show next year, so keep your fingers crossed."

ManuelI84 also asked about the future of Damon Salvatore and Elena Gilbert, also known as Delena. "The Vampire Diaries" season 7 marked the first season without Nina Dobrev.

"All I can say is that Damon is committed to being at Elena's side when she wakes up in however many years it takes, and he's going to do everything he can to make sure he still believes he's worthy of her," Julie Plec admitted. "He will hit a lot of bumps in the road coming up in the next few episodes and will have to make some drastic decisions. Don't forget, when we started this season, he was lying desiccated in a coffin next to hers."

There were speculations that "The Vampire Diaries" season 7 would be the final installment of the show. Ian Somerhalder, who portrays Damon Salvatore, revealed that the show's production is just trying to make it through the season.

"It's something that everyone is talking about and there is a lot of speculation about it because we're so far into it," Somerhalder told ET. "I'll be honest with you, right now we're just trying to get through this one and just make this a really, really good season of television."

According to Morning Ledger, Ian Somerhalder has been contemplating about how he'll bid farewell to "TVD." It was noted that he and wife, Nikki Reed, are planning to star their family.
