Panasonic unveiled the Lumix GX85, the first of its kind of a single lens mirrorless camera with a new Dual Image Stabilizer, which will be available by the end of May for $799.
According to The Verge, the camera offers a smaller and cheaper update designed for amateur photographers and enthusiasts alike, which is a new line up for its interchangeable lens camera that carries a new 16 megapixel sensor and a latest Venus image processor. The GX85 will come in black or silver color with a 12-32mm lens.
Panasonic added a new electromagnetic drive made from carbon fiber to its GX85 shutter mechanism that can reduce vibration by 10 percent giving it a crisper image. The camera has a silent mode using an electronic shutter for quiet operation.
The GX85 promises to deliver an advanced stabilization by combining a compatible lens of 2-axis Optical Image Stabilizer with the camera's built-in 5-axis stabilizer. So if the camera makes any sudden movement at any direction, the IS regains stability.
It works with taking still photos as well as videos, and it comes in handy for low-light scenarios due to its four-stop slower shutter speed. The new sensor can still capture detailed pictures without a low-pass filter, which it is used for controlling the moire.
According to Imaging Resource, Panasonic has been pushing towards 4k video heavily. Such as Panasonic's G7 and GX8, the GX85 also carries a 4K burst-mode feature, which enables to extract 8-megapixel still frame from a 4K video. In addition, the 4K Photo also offers a new Light Composition function that combines the pictures, and it comes with a 3840x2160 resolution.
The new Lumix GX85 shows that Panasonic is providing more of its advanced technologies and features down to a reasonable price, while excluding the things that amateur photographers might find unessential. The new camera still offers a friendlier experience and a smoother learning curve in taking excellent pictures.
