What does the American Dream mean for you? Does it mean getting rich and making it big? For some, it means entering the corporate universe and work hard and work the way up for a shot at success. Nowadays, that's unlikely.

Career success is described to be linear, now. There is a lot more mobility, movement and rerouting. Having a successful career doesn't just mean going up for American employees and professionals. How will you know if your career trajectory is successful? Payscale has it that there are three signs that can tell you if you're heading on the right path to success in your career:

1. You find your work challenging and fulfilling

Talk about passion and interest. People are motivated by factors that encourage learning. Finding fulfillment at work is awesome for your career because fulfillment goes a long way when it comes to satisfaction.

2. Your job and manager/employer is aligned with your short and long term career goals

A bright future can still be seen especially when your current employer supports you. If you feel like you're not wasting your time with your present company because the relationship is beneficial for you and your goals, then you're on the right path.

3. You are happy with your profession and its earning potential

Money doesn't make everyone happy but it certainly helps. Compensation and benefits play a significant role in your career decision. If you're happy with your job and your job is compensating you right - Then you're doing great. If it doesn't, then maybe it's time to negotiate for a higher salary.

There are still other factors to account for when it comes to a successful career but these certainly are the important things to consider.
