The "Warcraft" movie box office sales may determine the future of the franchise. Will a sequel be in development soon?
Tech Times reported that Universal Pictures and Legendary Entertainment are hoping that the "Warcraft" movie box office sales would result to an epic fantasy franchise in the future. However, reviews coming in have not been favorable to the film.
According to Collider, the "Warcraft" movie box office sales in the U.S. are estimated to have a dismal performance at around $30 million in its opening weekend. The film is expected to make a big splash in China where about 10 million people play "World of Warcraft."
"'WARCRAFT' earned est. ¥55.4M ($8.4M) from Tuesday midnight screenings, tops 'Furious 7's' all-time midnight record," China Box Office tweeted.
THRÂ noted that the "Warcraft" movie box office sales in China have already gained more than $20 million in advance tickets sales. It is believed that the film's association with Legendary Entertainment, whose parent company is Dalian Wanda, will help its performance in the country.
Wanda is China's largest cinema owner. It was predicted that "Warcraft" movie box office sales in China will have an opening of around $120 million to $150 million.
The "Warcraft" movie has also already gained $75 million at the foreign box office, in 28 markets. The film is doing exceptionally well in Russia and Germany, earning $17.3 million and $10 million, respectively, in its first 11 days.
Meanwhile, director Duncan Jones has admitted that he wants "Warcraft" movie sequel in the future. He revealed to PC Mag that he would like to continue the franchise.
"Chris Metzen, who is the master storyteller at Blizzard, and myself have talked a little bit about what a trilogy could be," Jones said. "I feel like there is a great three-movie story that we could tell, there's more detail that needs to be filled in... Hopefully people will love the movie as much as we loved making it, and they'll give us a chance to make some more."
