Everyone wants that one magic ticket to success. Unfortunately, that doesn't mean everybody gets there the same way. Sometimes the paper in the fortune cookie can give you the most popular advice ever but still leave you poor and regretful in the end.
"Just because you're passionate about something doesn't mean you won't suck at it," explains Mike Rowe, host of the TV show "Dirty Jobs."
You may have heard it during graduation rites or a close peer told you to do it. According to Market Watch, the "follow your passion" speech is the must used message everywhere. Especially when it comes to career and life advice. But some experts say that people who have themselves tried to follow their passion for a job found that doing this can be tricky. It has left many confused and eventually hold negative feelings towards their self worth.
Here are three reasons why following your passion may not work for you:
1. Your doesn't mean you'll like working in that field
2. You may find you are not good at what you are passionate about
3. You may not be able to support yourself on your passion
This is the reality most people are facing. Many people are passionate about career paths that simply won't pay their bills, experts say. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, self employed workers who are in to crafting and fine arts, are not earning much at a median rate of $21 per hour. Which means you might enjoy making mugs, but a little research shows that there isn't much future in that area especially if its a dying field.
So before you do anything else, it's important to research what the demand is for the field you want to enter for your passion to pay the bills.
