Mark Burton married to Cathriona White, who died of fatal overdose, sued actor Jim Carrey on Monday. Burton accused that 54-year-old actor illegally obtained the drugs that killed his 30-year-old girlfriend, White.

According to a report from USA Today, the lawsuit aims to strip Carrey of his "grieving good guy" image that he's had on for a year. Burton claims that Carrey used his "immense wealth and celebrity status" to obtain the mentioned drugs using the alias "Arthur King."

Burton alleges that Carrey gave prescription drugs to White, amidst knowing that she was vulnerable to depression and suicide. Carrey was also accused of covering up his role in his late girlfriend's death.

Michael Avenatti, Burton's attorney, also mentioned that their lawsuit alleges that some of the drugs found near White's body were illegally purchased by Carrey. The Mirror also reports that the suit accuses Carrey of being obsessed with his late girlfriend and that the actor monitors White's activities through surveillance cameras installed in White's residence. According to documents, Carrey and his assistants have seen White's comings and goings but have not reported to the police when she has strangely stayed inside the house for more than a day.

The lawsuit does not include the amount of money Burton asks to settle, but it demands that the case be a jury trial.

In a statement obtained by People, Carrey responded to the accusation saying that there could have been an agreement on the case but the circumstances require for him to stand up and defend himself. He added that he will not tolerate such exploitation and that "her tragic end was beyond anyone's control." He also noted that people are just trying to make profit from the issue and hopes that they would let White rest in peace.

On October last year, police report claimed that our of the four prescription medications found near White's body, only three were prescribed under her name. Report notes also documented Carrey sending text messages to White asking whhether she had seen the painkillers under the sink and his bottle of anti-inflammatories. Burton accused that these text messages are 'bogus' and that Carrey was trying to cover-up his role in the death of his wife.

Carrey dated White on and off for three years. White's tragic death happened Sept 25 last year after overdosing on her prescription pills. White left a suicide note addressed to Carrey asking for his forgiveness. She wrote, "I'm sorry you felt I wasn't there for you. I tried to give you my best part," and added "Please forgive me. I'm just not for this world."
