The Boston Celtics is reportedly eyeing Andrew Bogut of the Dallas Mavericks to be the anchor of their front court. Over the last few seasons, the Celtics have been struggling in the rebounding departments and they thought they'd have solved that problem when they got Al Horford.
In a report from CSN New England, the Boston Celtics could offer the Dallas Mavericks Amir Johnson and a future first-round draft pick for the services of Bogut. If this deal pushes through, the Celtics will get a legitimate Center who can protect the rim as well as rebound. Al Horford is a great defender but he is not as good a rebounder or shot blocker as the Australian Center.
As per ESPN, the Boston Celtics are tied with the San Antonio Spurs for 28th and 29th places in rebounding efficiency this 2016-2017 season. No wonder they need help in that area. Bogut is averaging close to 10 rebounds per game throughout his career and would be a huge asset in the Celtics' front court.
With Dirk Nowitzki sidelined indefinitely and Bogut sitting out with an injury of his own, the Dallas Mavericks are reeling and sport the league's worst record. They may look to reboot the season and just go in full rebuilding mode (read to tank). And the best way to rebuild a franchise is to get assets and young players with serviceable contracts. So the Mavs pulling this trade is plausible.
An Al Horford-Andrew Bogut front court partnership would help the Celtics immensely. The Celtics have a host of quick guards and Bogut have a lot of experience creating space for guards having played with Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson while in Golden State Warriors.
Also, Andrew Bogut is a very good passer and a great teammate. Needless to say that the big Aussie bruiser wild be a perfect fit for the Celtics. And with the addition of Bogut, the Celtics can easily be the second best team in the East.
