When it comes to technology growth and development, Apple simply knows what the next big thing to offer. And now, Apple’s CEO, Tim Cook, gave interesting hints and shared his excitement about augmented reality. The company seems to see great potential in augmented reality.
According to Independent, during Cook’s visit to the United Kingdom, he gladly talked about augmented reality and what he thinks of it. Cook revealed his excitement for it compared to virtual reality and said that augmented reality will not lock you from the world. It allows people to be present with the world but at the same time hopes to show an improvement on what is happening in the present.
“With AR you can, not be engrossed in something, but have it be a part of your world, of your conversation. That has resonance,” says Cook.
To make it more interesting, Cook compared AR to a smartphone. Cook shared some insights noting, “I regard it as a big idea like the smartphone." He explained and said that smartphones and iPhones are indeed for anyone and everyone. And he thinks same goes with AR.
“I think AR is that big, it’s huge. I get excited because of the things that could be done that could improve a lot of lives. And be entertaining. I view AR like I view the silicon here in my iPhone, it’s not a product per se, it’s a core technology,” Cooks explained.
Cook also pointed out there is still a lot of things to discover about AR before it can be mainstreamed. He expresses his belief that it can do different things to help people in their day to day lives and “real-life things,” that is why he is so excited about it.
Business Insider shared hat this is not the first time that Cook talked about augmented reality. Back in October, Cook already shared his thoughts about the great potential that AR has to offer. He thinks it could be essential in our everyday lives. It may take awhile for AR to come out but when it will happen, it will definitely be something big.
"It will happen in a big way, and we will wonder when it does, kind of how we wonder how we live without our phone today," Cook said.
Meanwhile, Jobs & Hire reported that Samsung is planning to upgrade their virtual reality gear headset and at the same time, to release its very own augmented reality.
