Kenzie Dalton and Chad Michael Murray have quietly ended their seven-year engagement early this year, and the actor's rep confirmed the split, Us Weekly reported Saturday.

While many believed that Kenzie Dalton and Chad Michael Murray's seven-year engagement would lead to a fruitful wedding, that wishful thinking is nothing but a pipe dream now after Murray's rep has confirmed that the couple had decided to end their relationship early this year.

"Chad Michael Murray and Kenzie Dalton quietly parted ways earlier in the year," the 32-year-old actor's rep told Us Weekly in a statement. "Please respect their privacy at this time."

Murray and Dalton, 25, met on the set of 'One Tree Hill' when Dalton played a cameo cheerleader. Murray, who played Lucas Scott in the CW series, and Dalton got engaged in 2006. Kenzie was still a senior in high school back then.

E! Online reported that prior to their engagement, Murray was married to his on-screen love interest in the same show, Sophia Bush, who played Brooke Davis. The two tied the knot in 2005 after nearly two years of being together.

Nevertheless, Bush shocked their fans when she fled to have to have their marriage annulled just five months after their wedding, and instead of annulment, she was granted a divorce.

In an interview in July 2012, Murray talked about his feelings towards Dalton, saying, "She is a little stunner."

"She is a sweetheart. She is my best friend and we have been together a long time," the actor added.

Meanwhile, E! Online reported that Murray was seen with Australian actress Nicky Whelan earlier this week. Their public appearance together somehow ignited the speculation that he and Dalton are finally over.

Murray and Whelan were snapped enjoying some time together in a car while they were driving away from the Chateau Marmont in West Hollywood.

The site also noted that perhaps Murray was already over their silent breakup. On a message he shared on Twitter, the actor expressed his gratitude to all of his friends who supported him amid the split.

"Love you friends out there! Thanku all of u for the unbelievable support & kindness. Happy bday to anyone I've missed this year! Cheers!" his tweet read.

Another tweet he wrote recently said: "Best friends are hard to find. Gotta handle the good & the crazy! #GregAnthony #StrongWork."
