The Los Angeles Lakers are expected to receive calls from teams interested in acquiring Pau Gasol before the deadline, and it appears that they will strike a big deal in the next few weeks.

Gasol was one of the hottest subjects of trade rumors recently as he was involved once again in a swap that could have sent him to the Cleveland Cavaliers in exchange for the team-friendly contract of Andrew Bynum and few more assets.

However, the Cavaliers eventually backed out of the deal and instead sent Bynum along with future picks to the Chicago Bulls for All-Star forward Luol Deng.

Reports suggested that the Lakers and the Cavaliers failed to reach a common ground during the negotiations about the future assets to be included in the deal.

Sources said that the Lakers were haggling for a high future pick or sophomore guard Dion Waiters. The Cavaliers turned down the offer, expressing no interest in parting ways with the 2012 fourth-overall pick.

However, the potential trade involving Gasol and Waiters could be revisited by both sides soon as reports suggested that the Cavaliers are already losing their patience on the 22-year-old guard due to his problematic attitude on and off the court.

"When Waiters' shot is falling, he can carry a team. When it's not, he tends to shut down. He doesn't defend, he gets careless with the ball. Players have quietly grumbled about Waiters' act off and on all season, and those grumbles were growing louder," the Akron Beacon Journal reported.

Now that the Cavaliers look willing to listen to offers for the former Syracuse standout, the Lakers are expected to make a strong push.

Fox Sports reported that the Lakers are badly looking for a scoring guard, knowing that acquiring such player will make their fans happier.

Lakers executives are reportedly feeling the heat of their frustrated fans and they would do anything to please them as proven by the lucrative two-year extension given to Bryant, which was viewed by experts as a fan-friendly move.

On the other hand, acquiring Gasol would be a good deal for the Cavaliers because the 33-year-old veteran would give them additional veteran presence aside from Deng, which will definitely make life easier for emerging superstar Kyrie Irving.
