"Fashion Police" Hiatus - Amid the hosts' exits and controversies, E! Channel has finally decided to temporarily postpone its fashion commentary show, "Fashion Police," until September. The announcement about the show's extended break was made Tuesday.
"Fashion Police" extended hiatus came after the show was bombarded by negative criticisms when host Giuliana Rancic made insulting comments on Zendaya Coleman's hair at the Oscars 2015 red carpet. According to MTV, the NBCUniversal Cable-owned network decided to scrap the three remaining episodes of the E! fashion commentary program.
"Fashion Police's" extended hiatus was confirmed by NBCUniversal Lifestyle Networks Group President Frances Berwick. The reason of the network for the show's prolonged break is to give producers enough time to reboot the series with new cast members.
"We definitely brought it back too soon," Berwick said. "There was a lot of noise and drama that are really not helpful or additive to the creative process, but there's a real love for this show."
"Fashion Police's" hiatus was also because to the decision of two of its co-hosts, Kelly Osbourne and Kathy Griffin, to leave the show following the nationwide backlash it received over Rancic's blunder.
As reported by Us Weekly, Kelly Osbourne exited the show after Rancic made an offensive comment to Zendaya's hair. The 30-year-old daughter of Sharon Osbourne took to Twitter to distance herself from the controversy that received a lot of online criticisms, particularly on social media.
Almost two weeks after Osbourne's departure, Kathy Griffin followed to exit "Fashion Police." The renowned comedienne deemed to be Joan Rivers' replacement also expressed her concerns and explained why she's quitting the fashion commentary show.
"I discovered that my style does not fit with the creative direction of the show, and now it's time to move on..." Griffin stated. "My brand of humor, while unrepentant and unafraid, is all about CONTEXT..."
"I do not want to use my comedy to contribute to a culture of unattainable perfectionism and intolerance towards difference," she continued, as CNN quoted.
Meanwhile, Berwick clarified what the real nature of "Fashion Police" is despite its extended hiatus.
"The show is about comedy and fashion and those are very light, frothy, fun subjects," Berwick explained. "If people don't want to do it, they shouldn't be forced to do it... E! is not a network that takes itself seriously. To the extent that this has all gotten very intense and serious - it's meant to be fun."
Just in time for major Hollywood events this fall, "Fashion Police" is currently slated to return on September after its extended hiatus. While Melissa Rivers will remain as the show's executive producer, Rancic and Brad Goreski are also returning as the hosts.
