General Electric Announces New Business Division GE Digital, Challenges IBM for Internet Of Things Supremacy?

General Electric announced the creation of their new "GE Digital."

According to Market Watch, this new move from GE brings together all of the digital capabilities of the company to one organization.

As per reports, the GE Digital will integrate GE's Software Centre, the GE's Global IT expertise, commercial software teams and the security strength of Wurldtech. This will be led by Bill Ruh, General Electric's chief digital officer.

"As GE transforms itself to become the world's premier digital industrial company, this will provide GE's customers with the best industrial solutions and the software needed to solve real world problems. It will make GE a digital show site and grow our software and analytics enterprise from $6B in 2015 to a top 10 software company by 2020," said Jeffrey Immelt, Chairman and CEO of GE.

As reported by rep-am, Immelt also aims to achieve the goal that GE will "provide GE's customers with the best industrial solutions and the software needed to solve real world problems."

Over the years, GE has been making big moves that have pushed the company to focus on the industrial business and minimize its other business interests.

General Electric announced back in April that it will sell most of the company's Capital assets and further added that it would sell about $26.5 billion in real estate assets.

This move by General Electic is also seen as a challenge to IBM for a race in Internet Of Things dominance, Forbes has reported.

According to reports, this is a direct aim at IBM's recent announcement of creating two new business units that will apply IBM's portfolio in Big Data, analytics and cognitive computing to the Internet Of Things.

However, this move is nothing new for General Electric, as they have been developing predictive maintenance and industrial internet application for years.
