Amazon To Expand Pantry Service To Provide More Grocery Choices

Amazon will be expanding their range of grocery products to provide more choices and satisfy their customer's needs.

Christopher North, the UK boss of the online retailer, said they will expand their pantry service in the new year to compete with the "big four" supermarkets -- Tesco, Asda, Sainsbury's and Morrisons -- who have been battling to maintain good sales, especially now that consumers will opt for big discounts and convenient shopping by purchasing though online.

Amazon's pantry service, which was launched in November in Britain, will be offering more products soon, Mr. North confirmed. The service currently offers 4000 products that ranges from health and beauty products, household supplies and food and drinks and it will be offering more product lines soon.

"We are really happy with the early numbers. In the new year we are going to be adding a lot more products," Mr North confirmed to The Guardian.

The pantry service became a hit to consumers after it was launched as it provide convenience to the shoppers. The service allows people to shop just through a simple click by ordering goods through a box system. Amazon charge customers £2.99 for the delivery of a large box that weighs 20kg. The online retailer then charge 99p for each subsequent box.

Mr North however didn't mention about the Amazon Fresh. The food delivery service is currently operating on the West Coast of the US and New York, which people can buy fresh food via online and it will be deliver to their doorstep. But there is ongoing speculation about its possibility that it will be launch in London soon.

"When we believe we have got the offer right, and the economics, we will roll it out internationally," Mr North said.

Amazon's grocery service is available to Amazon Prime members. The company said as of now they already have countless members worldwide. In fact, just this Dec they added three million customers to its Prime service.
