Verizon Strike 2016 Update: Union Workers Finally Closing Another Chapter; Back To Work For Strikers?

Recent news and updates for the Verizon strike of this year 2016 revealed that a tentative deal was met between Verizon and the union workers. Also, notions of the union workers closing this painful chapter in their lives arise and the strong possibility of the union workers coming back to work escalates.

Verizon reached a series of tentative agreements with unions representing nearly 40,000 striking workers over the holiday weekend, retreating on some of the major points of contention, including pension cuts and greater flexibility to outsource work, reports The New York Times.

"The tentative agreements reached today are good for our employees, good for our customers and will be good for our business," Marc Reed, Verizon's chief administrative officer, said in a statement. "They also include key changes sought by the company to better position our wireline business for success in the digital world."

The agreements reached on Sunday and Monday between Verizon and two major unions will most likely bring to an end the work stoppage, which began on April 13 and the striking members in both unions, the Communications Workers of America and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, must now vote on the agreements, reports the same post.

If the tentative deal is agreeable on both sides, the union workers might be back at work as soon as possible. Moreover, "This contract is a victory for working families across the country and an affirmation of the power of working people," Chris Shelton, president of the Communications Workers of America said in a statement.

A former post from Jobs & Hire also relayed that a deal was finally struck and it is anticipated to bring an end to the skirmish that has affected both the union workers and the tech firm.

With the tentative deal, it would mean that the union workers is closing another chapter of their lives to begin a new day to work with a new agreement and a new deal with their former employees.
