'Moana' Criticized By Many; Disney Film Not A Hit?

Not every critic seemed to be impressed with "Moana," but others claim it as another Disney hit.

A news site gave three out of five stars rating for the film. They explained that Disney settled for cliché empowerment motivations. It also never quite reached the heights of "Big Hero 6" and "Zootopia".

The setting is fresh but not the story telling. The movie "navigates the reefs but doesn't discover a whole new world," another news site commented.

Maui seemed to be the movie's set back but he is the main source of comic relief. They explained that his arrival signaled an abrupt tone shift, from the story book tone of the film to a cheekier tone.

Indiewire reported that "Moana stumbles on half-formed ideas" .They said that "the wave interacts with Moana like some kind of under-realized supporting character searching for an identity". The stakes of the character journey seemed to lack the sense of peril.

However, the showdown offers a lot of alarming fireworks. It "arrived with an air of inevitability that's only slightly improved by the lush images of the finale."

Despite this, most critics were impressed with the animated film. A news site believed that "Moana is a worthy successor of Disney beloved animated classics".

They said that despite it being a successor it still pushes the genre into 2016. It has a smart, diverse and convincing heroine who has struggles in life.

Variety reported that the film "Moana" teaches children to take control of their own destiny instead of waiting for a prince to rescue her. It showed that "Disney has gotten its mojo back."

This shows how much Disney princess movies have improved over the years and shows how Disney has broadened its horizons to a vast majority of kids. "Moana" can be seen on theaters on November 23.
