Box Office: 'Moana' Tops Thanksgiving Holiday; Warren Beatty's 'Rules Don't Apply' Crashes

It was Disney's animated film "Moana" that ripped top honors at the Box Office last Wednesday with a whopping $15.7 million from 3,875 theatres on opening day. The film is estimated to hit $87 million to $91 million for the five-day Thanksgiving stretch.

As per Deep Haven Local News, if the trend continues "Moana" could dislodge another Disney Film "Frozen" from the all-time top five-day honors at $93 million from second place.  The first place honors remain with "Hunger Games - Catching Fire" which finished at $109 million.

Second place all time is not so bad for "Moana", the animated film that tells the story of a princess in historic Polynesia who is seeking for a demigod. Dwayne Johnson plays the demigod and Auli'i Cravalho lends her voice to the young princess. The film's music arrangement was created by Lin-Manuel Miranda in cooperation with Mark Mancina and Opetaia Foa'i.

"Moana" was way ahead from all contenders with the main competition coming from "Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them", the J.K. Rawlins/Warner Bros film which only made $11million en route to a five-day record of $60 million to $65 million. The film hit $100 million by Wednesday and will go over $250 million in global box office.

Report News Today said that Warren Beatty's film "Rules Don't  Apply" is not looking so good as it is projected to reach only $2 million to $2.5 million after getting an anemic $315,000 from  2,382 theaters on opening day.  The movie is about Howard Hughes (played by Beatty) and the life of a young man ( Alden Ehrenreich) and woman (Lily Collins) who work for him. Beatty also directs this film that includes his wife Annette Benning and Broderick Crawford in the cast.

The spy thriller and Robert Zemecki's film "Allied" starred by Brad Pitt and Marion Cotillardalso did not perform as expected with a lukewarm $2.7 million on opening day and a five day record of $15 million to $18 million. This is the Brad Pitt's first movie after his divorce from Angelina Jolie.
