Shrek, Goosebumps Director Sets The Scene for Pokémon’s ‘Detective Pikachu’

While the image of Pikachu invades the world with the Pokémon Go and Pokémon Sun and Moon craze, Legendary Entertainment announced the live-action movie of the Pokémon but gave only few details about the movie. But, it seems that the live-action film is about to make its way on the box office after it has found its director, Rob Letterman.

After the release of Pokémon's version of 3D and mobile games, its management divulged on July that it will produce a live-action movie but during that time, there was still no director who will helm the movie. Just recently, Legendary confirmed that Rob Letterman, known for the movies Monsters vs. Aliens and Goosebumps will direct Pokémon's live-action film.

Entitled "Detective Pikachu", the live-action movie that is based on the video game "Great Detective Pikachu", was scripted by Alex Hirsch of Gravity Falls and Nicole Perlman of Guardians of the Galaxy. According to a report by Deadline, Detective Pikachu is the Pokémon world's newest storyline and character. The main character is represented by a snappy Pikachu who is capable of talking to humans.

Letterman is an American film director who is known to specialize in movies which are family-friendly. Among the notable movies that he directed are Gulliver's Travels, Shrek and Shark Tale. Aside from "Detective Pikachu", Letterman is also about to helm the newest movie entitled Dungeons and Dragons, and the sequel of Goosebumps, as well.

According to Den of Geek, the live-action film, "Detective Pikachu" will be released all over the world with Toho, the longtime film partner of Pokémon's company, who will distribute the franchise of the film in Japan. On the other hand, one of Legendary's partners in distribution, Universal Pictures, will handle the release of "Detective Pikachu" elsewhere in the world.

So far, "Detective Pikachu" is the biggest endeavour of Pokémon's franchise in the big screen. And with the current popularity gained by Pokémon franchises, it is no doubt that Legendary Entertainment will aim for the release of "Detective Pikachu" the soonest time possible.
