Greg Oden is facing ramifications after being arrested on battery charges on Thursday in Indianapolis after allegedly punching her ex-girlfriend following an argument, reports confirmed.
WTHR Channel 13 reported that Oden was brought to the Marion County Jail and was booked for two preliminary charges - Class A and Class B misdemeanor on battery involving injuries.
According to reports, the Lawrence Police Department received a call on Thursday morning and immediately went to the house of Oden's mother. Police officers then saw a woman with a bloody and swollen face lying on the sofa, who happens to be Oden's ex-girlfriend.
One witness reportedly confirmed that Oden punched the 24-year-old woman in her face after a heated argument between the former couple.
The injured woman declined to cooperate during the investigation with reports indicating that she did not confirm that she was punched by her ex-boyfriend, but Oden's relative, who saw the incident had the same statement as the first witness.
Oden's relative said that she was awakened by the loud argument between Oden and his ex-girlfriend, while also saying that "every time the two visit and go out, there is an argument to follow."
When asked to comment on the incident, Oden admitted that the he punched the injured woman on her face despite attempts from the witnesses and his relatives to break the fight up.
"Things got out of control and I started to go after the victim. My relative and witness tried to hold me back, but as I swung my arms to move them out of the way, then punched the victim in the face. I was wrong and I know what has to happen," said Oden, who confirmed that he recently broke up with the woman after dating for two years.
Lawrence Police Department officer Gary Woodruff told reporters that Oden cooperated well during the investigation and the former NBA first-overall pick is aware of the possible consequences for his action.
"He was cooperative with our officers at the scene," Woodruff said. "Sometimes making an arrest is the best resource, sometimes it's not. But in this case, the officers felt making an arrest based on the probable cause was the best course of action."
Oden spent last season with the Miami where he averaged 2.9 points to go along with 2.3 rebounds in 23 regular season games.
