Boxing News: Juan Manuel Marquez Won’t Fight Manny Pacquiao Again, Says Honor Is More Important Than Money

Manny Pacquiao is still hoping to get a fifth fight against Juan Manuel Marquez, but his Mexican rival reiterated that he is not interested in facing his nemesis again.

Marquez, who scored a big sixth-round knockout win against Pacquiao during their fourth showdown in December last year, said that Pacquiao's camp offered a big amount of money to face the Filipino boxing icon again.

But instead of taking the fight to get another lucrative paycheck, Marquez reiterated that he turned down the offer because the honor that he earned from his convincing win is more precious than money.

"I've been offered a lot of money for a fight with Pacquiao - but for me honor, prestige, and respect for a country comes first. And, why do a fifth fight? Considering we won," Marquez said via BoxingScene.

Marquez recently reiterated that a fifth fight makes no sense at all because he already proved that he is better than Pacquiao, saying that his knockout victory last year justified his claim that he won the first three fights.

The 41-year-old Mexican, who holds a 56-7-1 record with 40 knockout victories, said that he won't let another controversial decision loss ruin his big victory against the Filipino rival.

"We had a good win [in the fourth fight] and if we face him again we run risk of having a close fight and then the judges are going to favor him, so I don't see a lot of sense [in facing him again]. We won the first three, and we won the fourth. I think we already demonstrated what we intended to demonstrate," Marquez said.

Hall of Fame trainer Nacho Beristain also insisted in a recent interview that he won't allow Marquez to face Pacquiao again. If the Mexican boxing warrior decides to fight one more time next year, Beristain wants it to be against Kell Brook so that Marquez could fulfill his goal of winning a world title in five different divisions.

"I definitely do not see us fighting Pacquiao again, but with Kell Brook he's a fighter with good technique, he holds a lot and that is concerned, but I think it's a good fight for Juan. If he continues fighting, hopefully he can [get that fight] because he would get the opportunity to get the fifth title," Beristain said.
