Marvel's movie adaptation of "Doctor Strange" has continued to make noise as excited fans became curious on what the comic-book original superhero movie can offer. Joaquin Phoenix was reportedly rumored to play Doctor Stephen Strange in "Doctor Strange." Unfortunately, he has never found comic-book based movies "fulfilling." According to International Business Times, though Phoenix loves watching the film genre, he could not totally relate to them. Now, the role is being played by "Sherlock" actor Benedict Cumberbatch.

2. "Doctor Strange" Plot

Despite very little is known about the movie's storyline, it will depict the tale of an excellent but arrogant neurosurgeon whose career was destroyed by a car accident. As previously reported, he will then turn to practice occult arts and eventually become the "Sorcerer Supreme," who will be humanity's defender against supernatural threats from different dimensions.

Aside from Cumberbatch, the cast includes Oscar-winning actress Tilda Swinton aka The Ancient One, while Oscar-nominated "12 Years a Slave" actor Chiwetel Ejiofor will portray the lead antagonist Baron Mordo, Movie News Guide revealed. "Sherlock Holmes" star Rachel McAdams and "Hannibal" actor Mads Mikkelsen are also rumored for unspecified roles.

The upcoming film, which is part of the third phase of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, will be directed by horror filmmaker Scott Derrickson, Cinema Blend noted. However, it was reported that he abruptly left the project, leading the superhero flick bosses back to the drawing board.
