Exciting Tidbits About Apple's Campus 2 Under Construction

Apple now has a second campus, Campus 2, after its campus at One Infinite Loop. Known as the 'Spaceship Campus' because of its flying-saucer-like shape, Apple is due to move into the Cupertino campus by this year (2016)

A drone owned by YouTube user MyithZ was flown over Apple's 'spaceship' building multiple times starting January 2015. The latest video was shot this month (February 2016).

Here are the observations as reported by Mac World UK about the upcoming Campus 2

The building will be set in a 2.8 million-square-foot area. It will be able to house 13,000 employees in a building, a building that is over a mile around. Underground parking will take up 300,000 square feet of research facilities and underground parking.

The circular structure will be made of top of the line materials, like fine quality 'heartwood' at the center of a very specific species of Maple trees. It will also have four stories and walls made of glass - reportedly having used six kilometers of glass - enabling employees to look out of both sides!

Foster+Partners, the British firm, have been chosen as architects for Apple's massive Campus 2. In the past, they have been responsible for Wembley Stadium, Canary Wharf Underground Station, Stansted Airport, London's Millenium Bridge, HSBC HQ at Canary Wharf, the Maclaren Technology Centre and the Hearst Tower in New York.

The structure involves a car park buried under so as not to disrupt the landscaping. It will also include a fitness centre and a 1000-seat underground auditorium, and will reportedly have 1,000 bikes kept on site for to staff to get around the campus.

A leading arborist from Stanford University has reportedly been hired, and 7,000 trees will surround the building. Some of the indigenous plant life is to be restored, which includes apricot orchards. The landscaping will be made to look very park-like, with jogging paths and walking trails around the building.

The campus will be outfitted with solar panels around the top of the structure, and will us recycled water.

The budget for the project has allegedly blown up from less than $3 billion in 2011 to about $5 billion.
