Nina Dobrev To Return To 'The Vampire Diaries' Season 8 As Katherine? Will This Boost Ratings?

There are a lot of speculations on Nina Dobrev's return to "The Vampire Diaries" season 8. The "Final Girls" star may reprise her role as Katherine Pierce.

Movie News Guide reported that showrunner Julie Plec has confirmed Nina Dobrev's return to "The Vampire Diaries" season 8 finale. A lot of "TVD" spoilers claim that the actress will come back as Elena Gilbert for a big "Delena" moment.

However, there are reports suggesting that Nina Dobrev will return to "The Vampire Diaries" season 8 as Katherine Pierce. Nonetheless, fans are still excited over the highly-anticipated reunion between the actress and Ian Somerhalder, her former co-star and ex-boyfriend.

According to Yibada, in "The Vampire Diaries" season 7 finale, Somerhalder's character, Damon Salvatore, heard Elena Gilbert's (Nina Dobrev) voice calling out to him. This fueled speculations that Dobrev is, indeed, coming back to the series.

Apparently, Damon was lured into the vault because he heard the voice of his lady love. It was previously reported that Nina Dobrev personally came to the studio to record new material for "The Vampire Diaries" season 7.

Showrunner Julie Plec has also confirmed Nina Dobrev's return for "The Vampire Diaries" season 8. She is adamant that the actress return for the show's finale.

There are no official announcements on how the former "TVD" star will reappear. It was only confirmed that she will be seen on the highly-popular CW show again.

"The Vampire Diaries" has suffered from dismal ratings since Nina Dobrev left after season 6. The series has also been moved to a Friday night slot which is believed to be an indication of "TVD's" dwindling viewership.

This led to speculations that Nina Dobrev's return to "The Vampire Diaries" season 8 could help boost ratings for the series once again. The actress left the show to reportedly look for more career opportunities. She recently starred in the horror comedy film "Final Girls."
