New 'The Vampire Diaries' Season 8 Cast Confirmed; Nina Dobrev Not Returning To Series?

A new addition to "The Vampire Diaries" season 8 cast has been confirmed. Will the mysterious character be a friend or foe?

TVLine reported that Allison Scagliotti has been confirmed to be a part of "The Vampire Diaries" season 8 cast. The actress appeared on Freeform's "Stitchers."

She will be making her appearance in "The Vampire Diaries" season 8 on Oct. 21. Apparently, her character, Georgie, is an occult reach intern "driven by a horrific darkness in her own past. [She] channels her existential anxieties into a new field of study that will force her to confront her deepest fears."

According to Just Jared, this does not mean that Scagliotti is leaving "Stitchers" now that she's a part of "The Vampire Diaries" season 8 cast. She took to Twitter to tease about what she knows of the future of the series.

"Don't wig out about 'Stitchers,'" she tweeted. "At this point you know as much as we know."

It was previously reported that an unknown villain is set to appear in "The Vampire Diaries" season 8. Caroline, Bonnie and Stefan are also expected to face more difficulties in the upcoming season.

Showrunner Julie Plec revealed that Ian Somerhalder's character, Damon Salvatore, and Enzo's fate still remains a mystery and that very few things in the next season are set in stone. Moreover, a mysterious villain is set to appear.

Meanwhile, CDL speculated that Nina Dobrev's return to "The Vampire Diaries" may be cancelled. Apparently, the former "TVD" star is busy with her other projects such as "xXx: The Return of Xander Cage," "Crash Pad" and a remake of 1990's movie "Flatliners."

It was noted that Nina Dobrev's return to "The Vampire Diaries" would have boosted the series' dwindling ratings. There were speculations that the actress will reprise her role as Katherine Pierce.

This would be devastating news to fans who were excited to see Nina Dobrev and Ian Somerhalder's reunion on screen. There is still no official announcement, though, so there's still hope.
