Beauty And The Beast News & Update: Gaston Woos Belle In Never-Before-Seen Photo

What a guy, that Gaston is - as clearly seen in this newest photo released by Disney for the upcoming film "Beauty and the Beast." Empire got their hands on an exclusive image from the much-anticipated remake of the beloved Disney classic.

In the photo, Gaston (played by "Fast and the Furious 6" star Luke Evans) is seen romancing an unimpressed Belle (played by Emma Watson of "Harry Potter" fame). The two stars were among the first actors cast in the film; Watson announced she will be starring as the female lead on Jan. 26, 2015, while Evans was confirmed to star as Gaston on Mar. 5, 2015.

Disney's new "Beauty and the Beast" movie is a live-action re-telling of the studio's animated classic which won the hearts of moviegoers 25 years ago. Jobs n Hire has previously reported that Belle will have a back story unlike the original film: she's going to have a "proactive princess role," rather than a damsel in distress.

The original "Beauty and the Beast" film premiered on Nov. 22, 1991, and proceeded to become a box-office success, grossing $425 million worldwide. It won the "Golden Globe Award for Best Motion Picture - Musical or Comedy" and became the first animated film to be nominated for the "Academy Award for Best Picture."

"Downton Abbey" alum Dan Stevens joins the cast as the Beast, together with two-time Tony Award winner Kevin Kline as Belle's father, and comedian Josh Gad. ComingSoon reports that the new movie will also feature voices from an ensemble of Oscar nominees Ewan McGregor, Stanley Tucci, Ian McKellen, and Emma Thompson as the castle's enchanted staff.

Director Bill Condon, who won the 2006 Golden Globe for his movie "Dreamgirls," will be at the helm of the upcoming "Beauty and the Beast" film. Renowned composer Alan Menken, who did the musical score for the 1991 classic with the late Howard Ashman, returns to provide new recordings of the original songs. The remake will also feature new material composed by Menken and award-winning lyricist Tim Rice.

"Beauty and the Beast" will be distributed worldwide by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures. It will be released on Mar. 17, 2017 in U.S. theaters.
